Nature can be brilliantly messed up. Creatures that trick other species to raise their young are called ‘brood parasites’. An example of this is the ‘brown-headed cowbird’, which dives into other birds nests, knocks out one of the eggs and replaces it with their own. How cheeky is that! This relieves the cowbird from its parental duties, and the host bird diligently raises the little cowbird none the wiser.
