‘Typhoid Mary’ was a real person who immigrated to the United States in the 1880s! Mary Mallon worked as a cook and carried the bacteria in her blood. She didn’t feel sick and insisted on working, passing the illness on to at least 51 people before she was isolated in enforced quarantine for the remaining decades of her life!
